Since the start of the 1986 campaign to raise the profile of Birmingham and attract new investment to the area, the city has welcomed new developments that have changed its economy and skyline for ever – the Symphony Hall, National Indoor Arena, Royal Birmingham Ballet, Brindley Place and now, Europe’s biggest shopping centre, Bullring. Birmingham has become the biggest employer of professional and financial-services staff outside London (Second City Rising, The Sunday Times, August 24).
